Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern (1) – On the Back of the Turtle

I’ve been patiently waiting for “pattern” to come up as the weekly photo challenge. For me pattern is visual pleasure so imagine my excitement when I received the challenge notice this morning.

Although it’s not the best photograph I’ve ever taken, this turtle shell shows off nature’s knack for dramatic displays of pattern and geometry.

Unable to resist the draw of this challenge I have two other related posts as well: Pattern (2) – In Green Bronze (a series of photos of the sculpture Spirit of Haida Gwaii by Canadian artist Bill Reid) and Pattern (3) – In Grey (subject is self-explanatory).

    • Hi Lyliana,

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your question. Before you asked I didn’t know the name of this delightful creature so I did a bit of digging around. I have discovered it is called an Indian star tortoise (not actually a turtle!) also known as Geochelone elegans in the scientific world. My family and I saw this tortoise on a visit to a reptile zoo in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada but it is native to in India and Sri Lanka.
